なぜ山手線の車内のモニターには時間が表示されないのだろう、とずっと思っていた。
このモニターには、次の駅の情報、目的地までの時間、遅延情報、その駅ごとの階段の位置などの電車に関連する情報の他にも、ニュースや天気など、いろいろな情報が掲載されていてとても便利だ。それなら、単に「今の時間の表示」くらいあってもいいじゃないか。
ところが先日山手線でモニターをぼんやり眺めていて、時刻表示がない理由にふと気がついた。多分「時刻表示がＪＲにとって不利な情報である」からだ。
もしモニターに時刻がついていたら、「時間通りに到着し、時間通りに出発する」という信頼が失われる可能性がある。次の駅まで○分と表示しているのに、○分という「約束」が守れなかった場合、それが情報として瞬時にはっきり伝わってしまう。電車が遅れたとき、「約○分前後の遅れ」といったあいまいな表現もできなくなる。
情報をはっきり見せないことが、時と場合によってはサービスの質の（見かけ上の）維持につながる場合もある、ということなのだろう。
使う人にとって便利だと思う情報が、必ずしも情報提供者にとって有利な情報とは限らない。これはWebを作るときにもよく考える。ユーザーが欲していると思われる内容を提案すると、「それはこういう解釈をされるおそれがあるから載せないでほしい」と言われてしまうパターンは結構ある。人間でも同じ。自分をすべてさらけ出すことが、必ずしも人間関係をよくするとは限らない。
人・場所・状況・相手により、見せる情報と見せない情報は選択できるようにならないといけないのだと実感する。

ちょっと通りがかり過去の記事を拝見してあまりのなつかしさについ書いてしまいました。
週末定例外出「晴海埠頭」。日記を読ませていただきながら目頭が熱くなりました。
１９９２年に上京したてのころ、晴海の国際見本市会場で警備員のアルバイトをしたんです。田舎から出てきてすぐのバイトでモーターショーとかビジネスショーとかの警備ですね。
コンパニオンの綺麗なお姉さんに圧倒されながら、きらびやかなショーに都会に出てきた満足感に陶酔していたのを覚えています。
その時以来なんです。晴海なんて言葉に遭遇したのは。懐かしくなっていろいろ調べたら、、、もう見本市会場ないんですね。全然知りませんでした。
でも今度一回でかけてみようと思います。今どうなってるのか。。。
すいませんだらだらと。こんな懐かしい気持ちになったのは久しぶりなんです。
ちょっと寄り道しただけなので気にしないでください。
なんだかひとりですごくいい気分です。
